Toyota recalled about 145,000 SUVs over a glitch that could prevent an airbag from deploying in particular conditions.
Certain 2024 Grand Highlander and Lexus TX vehicles are included in the noncompliance recall.
Toyota said the driver-side “curtain shield” airbag may fail to deploy in a crash when the window next to the driver is down, resulting in added exposure to injury and failure to meet federal safety standards.
The Japanese automaker was working to develop a fix for the issue. It plans to send owners recall notices in mid-August.
Owners can visit Toyota’s recall page or the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s to check if their vehicles are included in the recall.
